United vs West Brom Preview

Manchester United vs West Bromwich Albion

Saturday | 16th Oct | KO 15:00 | Old Trafford

Manchester United will be looking to bridge the gap on Chelsea in the English Premier League on Saturday. To do that, they must see off the challenge of West Brom who have already taken one big scalp on their travels this season.

United are unbeaten this season but they have been dropping too many points in drawn games for their managers liking. Their season shows 3 straight wins from home games and 4 consecutive draws on the road. Each of their games at Old Trafford have seen plenty of goal action with Newcastle and West Ham beaten 3-0 and Liverpool edged out by the odd goal in 5. A 0-0 draw at Sunderland prior to the international break is the only occasion a United league match has failed to deliver 3 goals or more. A glance at the total goals betting markets below will show that “overs” is once again trading very short but it may be worth noting that in United's 3 previous home games the first goal has not arrived until after the half hour mark – food for thought for “in play” punters.

West Brom started with a heavy defeat at Chelsea (6-0) on the opening weekend and they also lost by a single goal at Liverpool but their other results have belied their pre season status as firm favourites for relegation. On their own ground they have beaten Sunderland and Birmingham and drawn with Spurs but the highlight of their season so far was a 3-2 win at Arsenal. Those wins have seen West Brom move into 6th place on the log with 11 points from 7 games, just 2 points shy of United.

The head to heads are overwhelmingly in United's favour and last time West Brom were in the top flight they were beaten 4-0 at Old Trafford and 5-0 at the Hawthorns. You have to go back to 1984 for West Brom's last win over United and to 1978 for their last win at Old Trafford.
