Manchester City vs Manchester United preview

Manchester City vs Manchester United preview- Simon Overall

Manchester City and Manchester United meet tomorrow in what represents the 136th derby clash between two sides. Here Simon goes through  the pre match analysis ahead of a potential Championship winning game.

For Manchester City skipper Joey Barton will miss out after being involved in a nasty fracas with teammate Oliver Dabo earlier in the week. Other notable absentee for City will be England International Micah Richards, a long-term casualty after suffering injury on international duty.

City have been in poor form in recent times and have not win since the 9th of April in a 3-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage and although are safely through the relegation zone they may well fall to 14th place should they lose to United and with Stuart Pearce no doubt facing renewed pressure on his position following former Bolton boss Sam Allardyce’s decision to leave The Reebok Stadium the game is a must win for City, if not to give the Sky Blue fans something to cheer about.

City will no doubt be bolstered by their derby day victory last year at Eastland’s, but face a tough test against a United side wounded for pride after their 3-0 loss in Milan.

Manchester United will welcome back Patrice Evra from European suspension this weekend and with Louis Saha also back most likely on the bench The Red Devils will have more options in both attack and defence.

Although having a torrid time against Milan it is likely Sir Alex Ferguson will stick with Nemanja Vidic, although Rio Ferdinand may come back alongside the Serbian international in the heart of defence with Wes Brown moving back onto the right fullback position.

United know that if they win at the City of Manchester Stadium and if Chelsea lose or draw away to Arsenal on Sunday, that the red half of Manchester will be singing come Sunday.

Should Patrice Evra and Gabriel Heinze appear against City they will both be making their 50th appearances in United colours, whilst PFA player and young player of the year Ronaldo can score his 50th goal for the club should he find the net tomorrow.
